It is a tall-growing variety characterized by low yield, susceptibility to major diseases, and a high cup quality, distinguished by its flavors: a light floral aroma reminiscent of jasmine, balance, a sweet aftertaste, juiciness, fruitiness, and a medium body.
At the end of the 18th century, cultivation spread to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Colombia, and from there to all of Central America. Until the 1940s, most coffee plantations in South and Central America were planted with Typica, but because this variety is low-yielding and highly susceptible to the main coffee diseases, it has been gradually replaced in a large part of the countries. It was the first coffee variety to be cultivated in tropical America.
